Greetings from our homestead in NW Missouri. We are very passionate about growing healthy food in our garden which is grown using the Mittleider Gardening method. Currently we are experimenting with a geothermal heat sink greenhouse to allow us to grow food all year long. It has a 95 ton rock heat sink under it that we hope will help heat the soil and greenhouse, allowing us to garden all winter long.
We raise a garden, have fruit trees, raise chickens and use freezing, canning and a freeze dryer to put away our own food. The winter of 2019 will be our first test of the heat sink greenhouse. Be sure to subscribe to watch as we test it out.
We try to post a video weekly, but while the garden is hopping we will produce more frequently. We look forward to bringing you better content each week and hearing from you.

Tips on applying weekly feed fertilizer to your garden that will help improve your gardening experience. Each week before I go to the garden I make sure the nutrients in the weekly feed are mixed well. With the lid on my bucket securely, it gets tipped end over end a few times. This redistributes the smaller micro nutrients and Epsom salt through the fertilizer. If you don't do this, the micros...

weekly feed and preplant requirements for seedling trays

There has been some confusion on when to add weekly feed and preplant to seedling trays and how much for larger containers. It is pretty easy. When starting seedlings from seed, you add only preplant to you seedling tray. When it is time to bump up the seedlings and transplant them into another seedling tray, you will add preplant AND weekly feed to that growing medium. When adding preplant to ...

Thanks for posting all this. Texas Ready - who I really trust - highly recommends this method, but there are a lot of naysayers online who seem to be jealous anyone can out perform their meticulous gardens with the system! Nice to see some tips on how to use the system. Love the self watering setup.
How do you apply the BT ? Is it a dust?
thanks for the video. I was looking for just this. Im growing for my rabbits and guinea pigs and wanted to know if i could harvest and feed them the outside leaves and the cabbage would still grow. Does this work with cauliflower and broccoli too? Im growing them to feed too.
No vegetables - wont harm you, but there are blooms - will kills bees and any beneficial insect. No reason to kill flea beetles - except when plants are very young, and only then if plant is threatened. The flea beetles will not harm the fruit.
Sir plz watsap n
you mean you ground up the weekly and that is what you used for spraying, right?
Adjust the air to get rid of the soot.
I drenched stink bug with a bottle with 50/50. Water & Dawn Dish soap & it did not kill the stink bug.
I know I asked at the camp and can't find where i recorded it. But what are the 4-5 tanks that you have for the sprayer? Cleaning water, weekly feed, bt,? Thanks again for doing this research!
Oh my goodness, I just found your channel, thank you for all the great info!
Can u eat these leaves
GRATITUDE 💥🥔💥
🥰
Tried this and still leads to haphazard seed spread. Found is just better to use a toothpick dipped in water and then dipped in a small pile of the seeds.
Hard to find the perfect sawdust. We got wood shavings. May try to grind them up.
This was the one thing that bothered me saw dust and sand. I am so glad that I found you!
2/24/24... any updates ? Is it still promising? Thanks
Does the sediment from the fertilizer that didn’t dissolve cause any issues with the sprayer? I think I heard you say you shook the concentrate before using it, so the particles would be re-suspended instead of at the bottom.
You legend, thank you !!!!
I am also in Missouri. 2 quick questions: how are you able to deal with harlequin bugs and do you spray anything for blight on tomatoes/cumbers/beans? By the way it's been refreshing seeing your tiller in the background! I've grown weary of "no dig" dogma. 😊
A shelf liner! How brilliant! Where did you learn that from?
Whats the red thing hanging between its legs? It cant be a penis can it?
Interesting. Wonder how much cold they can handle for how long? I had some in my freezer for 4 days at 0F to expire them. Pulled them out to let them thaw out for drying. That didn't work very well. They thawed after a while and took off crawling again.
Have you used Sucrose octanoate esters yet? Way more effective than some of the others you mentioned, USDA certified too.
Talk too much never said that when you pruning it doesn't hurt ghe cabbage or keep it from developing
Do you have a video on Fertlizers Natural vs Synthetic? I was watching all of your videos over time and thought I had saved this to watch, now, searching, I can't find it.. Maybe it was not on your channel. Some say "The Mittleider Fertlizer is Synthetic vs just crushed rock.. I wanted to see what the video said about it.. If not, I'll keep looking.. Hmm..
What if you have 20-20-20 feed?
I appreciate this series. I have a small yard and hope to move some day. In the meantime I like you believe we should be self sufficient and as removed from the current situation as possible.
The lime takes months to be effective
no wonder your channel never took off...no blessings here for you..
you could use a shaker top container like parmesan cheese or sea salt or a pepper box to spread the sand seed mixture evenly
You still mitlieder gardening?
Nice! Glad to see your garden this year. Looking good!
Why cabbage have long branch long leaves?
… you made a Surgeon’s Knot.
Fantastic! Thank you for doing this video. I love how you are going about the "experiment"
So how did the experiment end up? Thanks again for the research you share and your time.
I wish there was a more experienced Mittleider gardener here in Northern California that I could consult in person. I hope many people took you up on this.
can share continuation video?
It wasn’t a positive result.
Thank you very helpful
You're welcome!
We're do you live I enjoyed your video corn all you do is corn what when you watered when would have got a fertilizer use
We are in NW Missouri.
Great idea's ! I'm going out now to plant my basil seeds. Thank you.
Thanks for posting this, Heath! We ordered one last week for $59 right after your video came out. Went back to check again for spare tanks this week (which were out of stock last week) and the price had gone up to $99!
Glad I could help! Sounds like you got them bought just in time.
I'm trying to do the math but it's a bit convoluted so please help me here. Say you've got a 20wk growing season so using the weekly feed you're using something like 12#/wk x 20wks = 240# of weekly feed for the entire garden, close? But with the electrostatic you're using 8oz of the weekly feed to make 25gal and each gallon is feeding the entire garden for a couple of weeks or more? So 8oz is doing 2-3x the 'work' of 240# of normal weekly feeding? Or am I totally missing it and the 8oz is just the Mittleider micronutrients and the bulk 15-15-15 or whatever is still being applied normally?
You’re close. I stop feeding 8 weeks before a frost that would kill crops like tomatoes. For a single harvest crop like cabbage I stop 3 weeks before harvest. Regardless, foliar spray and electrostatic sprayers can potentially significantly reduce the amount of fertilizers needed. The man who I learned about this from is still experimenting too. He recently recommended using 6 ounces instead of 5. I suspect we will see more slight tweaking in the future. Regardless it’s exciting
@@smallblockfuelie Thanks for the reply and certainly follow up with a vid of your mixing schedule. Yes, I'd say a several hundred fold increase in fertilizer efficiency would be a game changer! I've got what I figure as twenty yrs worth of fertilizer and feed stockpiled but I'd love to think I have enough for 4000yrs(or enough to provide fertilizer to a few hundred friends!). Look at the Ryobi handheld electrostatic sprayers. They only hold one liter onboard but that may be an advantage. I bought several complete sprayers locally for 7 dollars apiece and just three more online for under twenty apiece, already have scads of Ryobi batteries and chargers. I predict fertilizer shortfalls for yrs to come. This could save us small timers. Factory farmers want to apply fertilizer once or perhaps twice per season so they're not going to be interested in anything that requires 3x/wk application.
Oh man! How did I forget i had to water it in??! Totally haven’t done that and I went to the class a couple years ago
Water it in well.
So spray in the morning and the underside of the leafs?
Correct.
@@smallblockfuelie thanks sir! Any suggestions for keeping pests off fruit trees?
What is BT? I’ve been using mittleider for a few years now and I don’t know what you’re referring to
BT is Thuricide. It’s a bacterial that is human safe, certified organic and kills all caterpillars. www.amazon.com/Southern-Ag-13022-Thuricide-Caterpillar/dp/B004QJ33B4/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2JF14980B0AKM&keywords=thuricide+bt+caterpillar+control&qid=1687735440&sprefix=Thuric%2Caps%2C134&sr=8-4
Please do a video on exactly how you prepare the fertilizer blend that you add to the sprayer. Thanks.
Great suggestion!
